Caprion Proteomics Overview
Caprion leverages CellCarta® to deliver valuable services to its drug development industry partners in two main areas:
- DISCOVERY OF NOVEL THERAPEUTIC DRUG TARGETS. Caprion has on-going programs to identify novel tumor cell-surface targets for cancer antibody therapy. Caprion has already discovered multiple novel targets across several cancer indications and collaborated in this area with such leading antibody therapy companies as Abbott, Biogen Idec, Centocor and ICOS. Caprion has also recently expanded its target discovery offering into other biologics, such as secreted proteins and vaccines, and into other disease areas including metabolic, inflammatory and infectious diseases. Finally, Caprion holds a multi-year Bio-defense contract with the NIH for the discovery of infectious disease targets.
- IDENTIFICATION OF NOVEL PROTEIN BIOMARKERS. Caprion has served an extensive set of clients including Pfizer, J&J, Wyeth, Daiichi-Sankyo, AstraZeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, Merck, ICOS, Berlex and Vertex, In these collaborations, Caprion identifies protein biomarkers in biological fluids and tissues in order to provide earlier prediction of drug efficacy and toxicity, accurately segregate responder from non-responder cohorts, and to enhance decision-making in pre-clinical and clinical drug development.
Caprion Key Differentiating Factors:
1. LARGE SCALE - HIGH-THROUGHPUT- The capability to track and measure expression differences of thousands of proteins across large sample sets allows Caprion to take on clinical as well as large pre-clinical studies that are beyond the scope of smaller, research oriented in-house proteomics groups.
2. REPRODUCIBLE RESULTS and CHAIN OF CUSTODY- Consistent results with very low sample CVs are possible with a highly controlled industrialized process that incorporates SOPs, Chain of Custody, electronic LIMS, bar coding, and other essential process controls.
3. SPECIFIC and ACCURATE- Comprehensive analysis is ensured with label-free mass spectrometry, reproducible liquid chromatography, advanced custom software, and a focus on differentially expressed proteins in disease and drug response.
4. FOCUSED ON ACTIONABLE RESULTS- An emphasis on protein identification ensures that the partner can connect the proteomic observations to the underlying biology, as well as have the means to follow up on candidate therapeutic targets or biomarkers with antibody reagents and other traditional tools and assays.
5. ACCESS TO SAMPLES- Access to clinical tissues and plasma, sub-cellular fractionation expertise, and enrichment of low abundance proteins means that many, otherwise difficult, studies are possible when partnered with Caprion.
6. USER FRIENDLY and TRANSPARENT- Data delivery in a Java-based, web-accessible report allows even the non-expert to rapidly evaluate the study results, make decisions, and take immediate action. Technical experts are also served by allowing for drill-down to all the underlying data that supports the summarized observations.
7. SOLID EXPERIENCE BASE- A culture of scientific collaboration and a willingness to work closely with our scientific and business contacts ensures good relations with the pharmaceutical partner as well as a final product that is tailored to the partner’s needs.
8. PROFITABLE SERVICE BUSINESS- Caprion has unparalleled experience as a provider of proteomic services to biotech and Pharma partners, the majority of which are repeat clients.
9. REASONABLE TERMS- Caprion’s Biomarker discovery business operates on a "Fee for Service" basis which requires no milestone or royalty obligations on the part of its collaborators.
